Romeria del Lunes de Quasimodo (Quasimodo Monday Pilgrimage) – 12th April

A very popuar fiesta in Olvera where almost everyone from the town makes the ‘pilgramaged’ out to the El Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios, the small church 2 km out of Olvera to eat drink and party in the surrounding fields. The pilgrimage of Quasimodo Monday stems from a prolonged drought that afflicted the town in 1715, the towns folk prayed to ‘Our Lady of Remedies’ for rain. According to tradition, it rained and in appreciation the town makes a pilgrimage to the ‘Shrine’ every year on the 2nd Monday after Easter Sunday.  The fiesta is noted as a Festival of Tourist Interest in Andalusia.

Motogp - Gran Premio de Espana – Jerez – 30th April-2nd May

Less than 1 hours drive from Olvera round 3 of the 2010 MotoGP world championship comes to Jerez, (which was voted Best GP of the Year 2009) where all eyes will be on the hugely anticipated title scrap between Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa.

Apart from the expected fierce title fight between Fiat Yamaha duo Rossi and Lorenzo, Ducati’s Stoner and Spaniard Pedrosa, much attention will focus on a bunch of new talent entering MotoGP in 2010.

One of the big names is record-breaking reigning World Superbike champion Ben Spies who joins Colin Edwards in the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 squad.

The continuing battle between 250GP rivals Marco Simoncelli, Alvaro Bautista and Hector Barbera is also expected to bring some exciting racing during the forthcoming season, which kicks off in Qatar on April 11.

I consider motorcycle racing to be the most exciting sport on television, with the MotoGP Championship the pinicale of the sport, and this season is going to be a cracker.
